Thing #17 ~ SandBox Wiki

It was very easy to add and entry to the Wiki. I was confused about the reliability of Wiki's. I thought they were very secure and trustworthy soures of information. A co-worker explained how easy it is to post an entry in Wikipedia. I was amazed at how easy it is to post something you believe you are knowledgable about. I know I always thought Wikiedia was like the dictionary..I know ~ duh....but anyway I learned something new. I also know to find the source behind the so-called info before I trust it now.

Thing # 19 ~ Web 2.0 Awards List

I searched through the best of the best web 2.0 websites. I love that they are all located in one webpage!!!! The website that I loved the most was www.43things.com. NO ~ its not the same thing as what we are doing right now....lol. The thing that caught my eye was the fact that you can find out what everyone else is looking for or wants to do or go in their life. You quickly find out that what you are looking for is what many many many people are looking for.... what to do with their life....what they want to try...and where they want to go. The website has tags that break down certain subjects and travel spots as well. It's a really fun and relaxing website that you can just sit back and surf.

I have already been to the youtube website but..... I had no idea how easy it would be to post a video on my blog. It took less than 5 minutes. I really like the youtube video I posted about the raccoon. I had a pair raccoons at my old house. Raccoons get into almost as much trouble as I do......almost.

I LOVE Technorati!!!!!! I will got to this site all the time. It has everything all rolled into one huge website. You can search anything and everything and find at least several blogs related to what you want. Just to check out how it worked I searched "Southern Maryland". It came up with hundereds of blogs of people talking about living here in So. MD. How cool is that? Ok I need to get out of my camper (long story :-))a little more......

Thing # 8 ~ RSS Feeds

I already have RSS feeds setup through my Yahoo account so I am familiar with this. I did find a few new websites to receive through my blog though. maybe I'll find a few more interesting ones....the ones I have are kinda blah......

I have never been to the website LibraryThing. I love the fact that you can put in a title that you have read and all types of suggestions pop up. I really like the reviews that people can post about books they have read. It helps me decide if it is worth reading or not. My own library is now created that I have either read or want to read....time permitting of course.

Creating avatars was the so much fun! I have already created a Yahoo avatar so I went to Meez.com. They have animation, backgrounds, and so many more options than Yahoo offers. The process was smooth and easy after I got started. I just moved into a camper trailer temporarily until I can clear the land for my house so I loved the fact that they had a camper background. Every time I look at the animation on my avatar I start laughing because I chose "freaked out". Check it out!

Thing # 7 ~ Technology Stuff

I am really interested in uploading pictures to Flickr. I love this site and the fact that you can share your photos with the entire world! I have an account set up but I have yet to actually transfer any of my photos to the website. There are so many things you can do with your photos...mashups, create cards, anything and everything you could possible want to do. I also love the fact that you can join groups and talk about the things that interest you the most with people that have the same passions.

Thing #6 ~ Flickr Mashups

I'm working on this.....haven't quite mastered how to do this. If anyone has done this "Thing" please give me some pointers.

I have since talked to Phyllis and she informed me that we just need to know about mashups.....we really don't need to actually do a mashup.....thank god.

St. Mary's County has joined forces with Charles, Calvert & SMRLA to learn new techie stuff. Should be very eye opening for me :-)

Thing #2 ~ Lifelong Learning

Today I watched an online presentation "The 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Learners". I learned not to be afraid to set a goal and learn something new! I will never be too old to learn or create a new interest. I have decided on a few new interests that I have decided to learn.

Here they are:

1) Learn how to speak Spanish. I have always wanted to learn how to speak Spanish. St. Mary's County has a growing population of Spanish speaking persons. If a Spanish speaking person comes into the library I want to be able to communicate well enough so I can help them in their quest to find information. I know I can accomplish this because my other goal was to learn sign language to help the Deaf community when they come into the library. I am now fluent in sign language and use it as a daily part of my life...at work and at home.

2) I want to create and publish a blog of my own that I can talk to other people about a hobby and/or interest that I enjoy. After the Learning 2.0 23 Things activity I am fairly confident that I can do this easily!

3) I want to create an outdoor oasis at my new home...when it's finally finished :-) I'm thinking a small pond with a square deck built around the pond with a long walkway to the house. A place that my daughter and I as well as friends and family can relax and enjoy. Something that is designed and built by me with beautiful plants and a gorgeous site to see!

I can't wait to get started on my new learning quests!

Thing #5 ~ Gotta Love Flickr

I went to Flickr today for the first time and had a blast! I dicovered so many new photos related to the things that I love. The best discovery that I made was a group of people that all have my same favorite hobby...collecting beach glass. I had no idea that so many people were interested in beach glass as a hobby! I am now a member of Flickr and plan on posting some of my own favorite photos that I took with my digital camera.

I love this website :-)
